MARTYN'S LAWWhat is Martyn's Law: Martyn's Law, also known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, is legislation that aims to improve public safety by increasing the preparedness of certain premises and events for terrorist attacks: Purpose, The law will require those responsible for certain premises and events to take steps to reduce the risk of physical harm in the event of a terrorist attack. Requirements, The law will apply different requirements to different premises, based on their capacity. For example, premises with an expected capacity of 200 people are considered "Standard Tier" premises, while those with an expected capacity of 800 people are considered "Enhanced Tier" premises. Responsibility, The law will make those responsible for qualifying premises and events liable for compliance. This includes ensuring that the outcomes of planning are recorded and auditable, and that responsibilities are reinforced through communications and guidance. Application, The law will apply across the UK, including England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Timeline, There will be a significant period of time before the law is implemented, to allow those responsible for premises and events to understand their obligations and prepare. The law is named after Martyn Hett, who was killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. Protexus Security and Martyn's Law: A Commitment to Safety At Protexus Security, we fully support the principles of Martyn's Law, a proposed UK legislation dedicated to enhancing public safety in venues and public spaces by mitigating risks of terrorism. This legislation, born from a tragedy and named in honour of Martyn Hett, advocates for more rigorous and consistent security practices across all public areas to better protect lives. Protexus Security is committed to implementing proactive measures aligned with Martyn's Law. Our team is trained in advanced threat assessment techniques, emergency response protocols, and comprehensive risk management strategies that align with this legislation's principles. We prioritise situational awareness and the “HOT” (Hidden, Obvious, Typical) principle for unattended items, reinforcing a vigilant approach to any potential security threat. With Protexus, venues, event planners, and organisations can trust in our commitment to keeping public spaces safe. We bring our expertise, dedication, and compassion to each client, making sure that safety and respect are at the heart of everything we do

Here’s an outline of the key steps in our recruitment process: What you can expect during this process 1. Define Job Requirements Develop clear job descriptions for roles like security officers, guards, and specialist positions. Specify qualifications, experience, and required licenses, such as the SIA (Security Industry Authority) license. 2. Screening and Shortlisting Review applications to ensure candidates meet basic qualifications and license requirements. Shortlist candidates who align with the job profile. 3. Interview Process Conduct interviews to assess candidates' skills, experience, and suitability for security roles. Use scenario-based and behavioural interview questions to evaluate responses to real-life security situations. 4. Background Checks and Vetting Perform comprehensive background checks, including criminal records, financial checks, and work history verification. Vetting complies with BS7858:2019 British Standard for security screening. 5. License Verification Verify SIA licenses to ensure candidates are legally eligible for security roles. Check that licenses are current and applicable to the type of security work (e.g., door supervision, CCTV operations). 6. Training and Induction Provide mandatory training covering first aid, conflict resolution, emergency procedures, and site-specific responsibilities. Conduct an induction session to familiarise new hires with company policies, client expectations, and code of conduct. 7. Compliance and Documentation Ensure all employment contracts, confidentiality agreements, and policy acknowledgement forms are signed and filed. Maintain records for auditing and legal purposes, following GDPR standards for data privacy. 8. Encourage professional development to retain and upskill our workforce. ACS ACCREDITATIONSecurity companies in the UK do not need to be SIA ACS (Approved Contractor Scheme) accredited to operate legally. However, they must ensure that all their security personnel hold valid SIA licenses for the roles they perform, such as door supervision, close protection, or CCTV monitoring. Key Points on ACS Accreditation: Not a Legal Requirement – The ACS is a voluntary scheme offered by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Companies can legally operate without it as long as they comply with SIA licensing laws. Purpose of ACS Accreditation – The ACS is designed to set higher operational and management standards for security firms. It acts as a quality mark but is not mandatory for security companies. Benefits of ACS Accreditation: Enhances credibility and reputation in the industry. Helps in winning government contracts or working with larger clients who may require ACS-approved providers. Provides access to licensed staff without individual SIA checks (through the Approved Contractor Status licensing route). Why Some Companies Choose Not to be ACS Accredited: Cost & Administration – The ACS accreditation process involves significant costs, audits, and administration, which can drive up prices for clients. Flexibility – Some firms prefer operational independence to tailor their services without ACS constraints. Selective Recruitment – Non-ACS firms can still vet, train, and manage their staff to high standards without formal accreditation. Bottom Line: An SIA license is mandatory for individual security officers, but ACS accreditation is not required for security companies to operate. Many reputable firms operate without ACS accreditation while maintaining high standards through independent policies, training, and compliance measures. Why Protexus Security Chooses Not to be SIA Accredited At Protexus Security, we are committed to delivering the highest standards of professional security services while maintaining flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and a client-focused approach. While the Security Industry Authority (SIA) Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) is a recognised accreditation, we have made a strategic decision not to pursue this certification. Reasons for Our Decision: Uncompromised Quality & Standards We adhere to industry best practices and implement robust internal training, vetting, and operational procedures that exceed SIA ACS requirements. Our security personnel are fully licensed under the SIA regulatory framework, ensuring they meet legal standards. Greater Flexibility & Cost-Effectiveness SIA ACS accreditation often involves significant administrative costs, which can lead to higher pricing for clients. By maintaining operational independence, we can offer competitive rates while still ensuring high-quality service delivery. Selective Recruitment & Tailored Training Instead of relying on ACS accreditation as a benchmark, we handpick our personnel based on experience, skill, and suitability for specific assignments. Our in-house training focuses on real-world security scenarios rather than a generic compliance-based approach. Client-Centric Focus We prioritise bespoke security solutions tailored to our clients’ unique requirements rather than adhering to a one-size-fits-all accreditation framework. Our focus remains on delivering results, building trust, and ensuring operational excellence without unnecessary bureaucratic constraints. Our Commitment to Excellence While we choose not to be SIA ACS accredited, we remain fully compliant with all legal requirements, ensuring that all our security professionals hold valid SIA licenses and undergo rigorous background checks and have extensive experience within the security industry. Our approach allows us to deliver superior service, adapt quickly to client needs, and maintain full control over quality and standards. Being ACS approved means a company within the private security industry has been independently assessed and verified by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to meet a set of quality standards, signifying that they are considered a "fit and proper" business with high operational standards HOWEVER IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE COMPLIANCE see a list of ACS approved companies that have been removed from the scheme here https://www.services.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/Pages/acs-withdrawal.aspx So while ACS (Approved Contractor Scheme) accreditation is a good indicator of a company's adherence to certain security standards, it doesn't necessarily guarantee that they have the practical experience needed to handle the complexities of a security situation, or that their standards are better than none ACS approved companies. When selecting a security company, it's crucial to consider: Years of operation: Companies with a proven track record are often more reliable and adaptable to different security challenges. Specialised expertise: Some security needs require specific skills or knowledge that come with years of operational experience in a particular field or industry. Client testimonials and case studies: Real-world examples of past work can help you assess their capability and reliability.
